Mothering Magazine and me and you

I’ve been anticipating this amazing opportunity for me to share my product with folks via Mothering Magazine since December. It was really surreal to learn that I would be included in this list- I’ve long been a faithful Mothering fan, curling up with my beloved copy in the sun or on the couch as my daughter sleeps. To be included was like a dream!

Green Gamboni is featured in the last issue of Mothering Magazine!

But less than a week before the issue was to be released I learned that it would be the last issue to be published…So it is a sad week for me in that regard, but I can’t tell you how honored I feel to be included in the last issue!

Warmly,

Anne

Thanks, friends!

I haven’t blogged in a while, and I do have a lot to say, but I wanted to break my silent spell by thanking all of the fabulous followers of All About Cloth Diapers for participating in the review/giveaway contest! It was a lot of fun to meet you in this virtual land and to see so much wonderful feedback! I’m a bit sad that the contest is over…must mean I should do more!!! I’ll let you know when the next one comes up, but in the meantime I hope you visit me often, and if you feel the need to cover those cloth bums in some adorable organic jeans, I’m here at your service!
Warmly,
Anne

Cloth Diapers vs. Disposables?

I’d like to do a little plug for cloth diapers because I really think cloth diapering gets a bad rap. Cloth or disposable, we’re still talking about poop, which is never fun to deal with in any circumstance. (And YES you ARE supposed to drop that poop in the toilet no matter what type of diaper you choose. Sorry, but if you aren’t doing it, then said poop is going into a landfill rather than the sewage system.)

Back to cloth. There are zillions of choices available…systems…as we cloth diaperers call them. Go ahead and google it- it is mind boggling. I haven’t tried even a fraction of them, but the ones that I use, BumGenius, are fantastic! I’ve had very few leaks. They snap on so they are really no more time consuming to put on than disposables. I do a load of them every day or two and so, after the initial cost of buying them, I’m saving a grip of cash!

And then there are the environmental impacts. I’m not going to drop a bunch of statistics on you right now, but I will tell you this: disposable diapers are the third largest consumer items in landfills. And they hang around for a LONG time. I could go on and on, but ultimately cloth diapering is just less demanding on our environment.

Oh, and using cloth diapers doesn’t make you a “hippie”… It really just means that you’ve decided to use cloth diapers rather than disposable. Really. That’s all it means.

I’m happy to chat about cloth diapers and answer questions etc! There are also some amazing resources online, please see my list.

Whatever diaper you use and preach by, happy diapering to you! Xoxo- Anne

A Word on Pricing

In our world of global industrial worker exploitation and environmental degradation we are rewarded with shockingly cheap clothing on a massive scale. While this feels nice on our pocketbooks, we all know somewhere in our hearts that this is not a true price; that the true cost is not reflected in that sticker. I have ignored that tugging at my heart many times and made that super cheap purchase. So I understand how, in light of this, some people may feel that the jeans I am offering seem expensive. I feel you. But these jeans reflect the value of the natural materials that are sustainably farmed and processed so that nearby farming families’ drinking water is not contaminated with pesticides and indigo dye. These jeans reflect the craftsmanship of USA garment workers who take the time to craft clothing with their bare hands…not on a digitized industrial machine. These jeans reflect the fact that a small- TINY- business (and a stay at home mama) is trying to carve out a place in this world- and is competing with Walmart. We all vote with our dollars and when you purchase a pair of Green Gamboni jeans you can rest assured that you are supporting real living wages and environmental stewardship.

Who sews YOUR clothes?

Ah garment manufacturing…when did you get so old? It almost seems as if you are a relic from the past. I mean, when I walk into your hallways I see actual humans sewing. I hear rapid discussions and feel yards upon yards of fabric. You are so real and tangible. You have your very own particular scent- oil, dyes and coffee and something else that I can’t put my finger upon. And you are beautiful. You are so ancient and so new all at once. We demand so much from you and you get so little in return. I want to take this opportunity right now to thank you. I really appreciate all that you do.
